Anarchism sounds great, but...
Forums
okay, so anarchism sounds really cool.
But...how does anarchism deal with hate?
I'm going to use antisemitism as an example, since a) there's a fair bit of data and b) I'm Jewish. Jews are 0.2% of the world population.
48% of that world blames us for antisemitism (240x as many as Jews in the world). 35% think we're behind most wars globally (175x). Those trends aren't only among older people--they in fact RISE among younger people, being 54% (!) and 40% respectively. Among all ages, 50% (250x as many) think we don't care what happens to anyone but us.
Let's be generous, and suppose only 1% of people who think we're behind most wars actually would kill us if they got the chance and there was no state apparatus to (generally, and fortunately) discourage them. We're still outnumbered over one and a half times.
Are people who think we don't give a damn about anyone else going to help us equally? Are people who blame us for 2,000+ years of hate going to care if someone starts killing us again?
Do I think state responses to these sorts of things are great? No. But in many cases they are better than what they would replace.
Wyoming, for all its awfulness, has rules about murder, even if the murdered is queer. Texas at least pretends to have rules about domestic violence. In a few cases, like North Korea, it seems quite reasonable to say the state is actively harmful--but that's a case against North Korea, not states in general.
Does anarchism have a response to this? Or is this just me misunderstanding anarchism?
On hate
Anarchism is more about breaking the system that perpetuates lies like racism, and in this case antisemitism. As all forms of bigotry and putting of one people or nation above another is inherently propaganda. Our main goal is creating equity globally so that these old ideas meant to separate us are no longer benefitting the rulers of today to spread. Bigotry has always been a tool to push blame past rulers onto the working class to create rifts so that unity cannot be as readily achieved.
States have normalized violence to protect their rich and control their peoples, verily with little in the correct way of things. States shouldn’t kill anyone at all, and because they can’t, they must be abolished. The state and corporate functions would be picked up by collectivization and direct democracy. Essentially we’d replace all state and business with shared ownership and equal say. This allows people to work in any field, learn in any field, and not be limited by leaders or finances when innovating. Our goal is to make equality as it should be, moneyless, stateless, and classless, and not the “equality” states give now with no semblance of truth to the word.
