so, i am mostly a copyeditor, and i would like to know if i am even allowed to copyedit things or if they are supposed to remain as they are because of sic?? thanks in advance :)
My two cents
I'm not a librarian on the project, but here are my thoughts:
If it's a modern text where the author is still alive you could message the author and they'd likely appreciate it.
Or, if it's a machine error from a photo scan conversion they're always good to clean up.
Otherwise likely not, unless it's a really really obvious spelling error the old author would have likely wanted fixing.
Anything where it's spelling & grammar style differences by region it's definitely important to leave as is.
